Best Handyman in Woodbine, NJ
Homeowners and landlords in Woodbine choose Mackenzie Contracting because we deliver honest work at a fair price in a borough of 2,128 people that most contractors overlook (2020 Census). Open each advantage below to see what that means on your street.
Local knowledge of a one-of-a-kind borough
Woodbine was founded in 1891 by the Baron de Hirsch Fund as a farming colony and incorporated in 1903 as the first self-governing Jewish community in the United States. The housing follows that timeline: colony-era frames, 1950s ranches, 1990s builds. We know what each era needs. Ask us about your street: (609) 412-7764.
Priced for Woodbine budgets
The median Woodbine home is valued at $218,200 (ACS 2020-2024), while Thumbtack’s Home Care Price Index puts essential annual upkeep at $10,433 nationally and climbing. Our job is keeping small fixes small, so maintenance never swallows your equity. Every estimate is free and in writing.
Right-sized for rental properties
About 341 of Woodbine’s 764 occupied homes are rentals, roughly 45 percent, the highest share anywhere we work (ACS 2020-2024). Turnovers, punch lists, lock swaps, and fast mid-lease fixes are daily business for us. Text the unit’s punch list to (609) 412-7764 and we will price it.
Ready for the rural edges
The borough spreads across 8.02 square miles, and the wooded lots toward Belleplain State Forest bring pine debris, moisture, and storm wear to gutters, sheds, screens, and decks. A seasonal exterior check keeps all of it ahead of the weather. Book yours with a quick call.

- Woodbine's Historic Homes
Caring for Woodbine's Older Housing Stock
Woodbine’s residential center still follows the street grid laid out at the borough’s founding in 1891, when the Baron de Hirsch Fund purchased more than 5,000 acres for an agricultural colony, and by 1903 the town had incorporated as the first self-governing Jewish community in the United States.
That history lives on in the housing stock: 321 of today’s homes, nearly three in ten, were standing before 1940, and the borough’s median home dates to 1962 (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024). The Woodbine Brotherhood Synagogue, home of Stockton University’s Sam Azeez Museum of Woodbine Heritage, anchors that legacy on Washington Avenue.
Older frames mean plaster walls, original trim, aging wiring, and plumbing that has already done long service. We repair all of it with care, keeping the character while making everything work the way it should.

I was very impressed with Mackenzie Contracting from beginning to end. John responded quickly to my phone call, visited for an estimate in a timely manner and then sent a proposal/ contract email within 24 hours. John gave us a date to compete the work and sent a text as a reminder to expect him on the date we agreed upon. John arrived on time and he was very friendly and professional. He did excellent work replacing the window jam and the trim even though there were unexpected issues. John measured for an additional project and sent an estimate shortly thereafter. We look forward to him doing further work at our home. We would highly recommend Mackenzie Contracting for any work you may need at your home or business.Posted on Google![]()

This young man was recommended to us by our exterminating company. They told me that he was just starting out, and said he would do a good job, so, we’re always willing to give a local small business a try. I called and told him the work I needed done, and John gave us a time he’d come out to assess the project. He arrived on time and said he’d have an estimate to us by the following day, which he did. After a review of the work he was going to do, we accepted the offer, and he gave us a date & time. Once again he texted us with his time of arrival, and again arrived on time. In all honesty, I thought the job would be to small, and he wouldn’t want to do it, but I was wrong. He removed a crawl space window & framed it out and sealed it up with weather treated wood, and replaced a 3 way light switch in our kitchen. The area he work for the window was under a back porch, where he’d have to basically lay on his back for it to be done, one of the reasons I’d thought he decline the job, but he didn’t. He took pictures each stage of the work, to show us the before and after. John is worth a call, if you’re going to need work done. We are completely satisfied, and I’m sure you will also. I wish you much success young man, and will not hesitate to call you with any future projects we’ll have. Respectfully Mike Rubba.Posted on Google![]()

Thumbtack’s Home Care Price Index puts essential annual maintenance at $10,433 for the average American single-family home, up 5.9 percent in a year, driven partly by aging housing stock. In a borough where the median home is valued at $218,200 (ACS 2020-2024), steady small repairs protect a bigger share of your investment than in any other town we serve. Every estimate here is free and put in writing first.
Yes, and we enjoy them. The borough was laid out in 1891, and 321 of its homes, nearly three in ten, still date from before 1940 (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024). Plaster walls, original trim, early wiring, and veteran plumbing all need a patient hand rather than a quick tear-out, and that is exactly how we work.
Constantly. Roughly 45 percent of Woodbine’s occupied homes are rentals, about 341 units, the highest share in our whole service area (ACS 2020-2024). We handle tenant turnovers, punch lists, appliance swaps, lock changes, and fast mid-lease repairs so units stay filled and tenants stay put.
All 8.02 square miles are, from the Washington Avenue grid to the wooded lots along Route 550 near Belleplain State Forest. Rural properties out there fight pine debris, moisture, and storm wear, so gutters, screens, sheds, and decks get our seasonal attention. The drive never changes the price of the estimate: it stays free.
